Product Terms of Service
Effective date: . These terms apply to all Kryptbox hardware devices. They supplement our General Terms of Service.
1. Who these terms apply to
These Product Terms apply to anyone who purchases, receives, or uses a Kryptbox hardware device ("Device"). The seller is KRYPTBOX LIMITED, company number 17216145, registered office 21 Randolph Road, registered in England & Wales. By using a Device you agree to these terms.
2. What the Device is — and is not
Kryptbox Devices are offline personal storage hardware. They are designed to hold up to 16 MB of personal data (passwords, notes, documents, small images) in an encrypted format on the physical device.
The Device is not:
- A certified medical device and must not be used to store medical records that require regulatory compliance (e.g. NHS, HIPAA).
- A certified financial instrument or regulated financial product.
- A legally compliant document management system for professional or regulated use (e.g. legal, accounting, HR).
- A replacement for professional data backup, disaster recovery, or business continuity systems.
- A guaranteed secure enclave — no hardware security claim is absolute.
You are responsible for determining whether the Device is suitable for your intended use case before purchase.
3. Hardware warranty
Kryptbox Devices are warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for 12 months from the date of original purchase ("Warranty Period").
If a Device fails due to a manufacturing defect within the Warranty Period, we will, at our discretion, repair or replace it at no charge. To make a warranty claim, contact us at [email protected] with proof of purchase and a description of the defect.
This warranty does not cover:
- Physical damage caused by drops, impacts, liquid, or misuse
- Damage caused by unauthorised modification or repair
- Normal wear and tear
- Loss or theft of the Device
- Data stored on the Device — see section 5 (Data responsibility)
This warranty is in addition to, and does not affect, your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (UK).
4. Acceptable use
You agree to use the Device only for lawful purposes. You must not use the Device to:
- Store, transmit, or distribute illegal content of any kind
- Store credentials, data, or materials that belong to others without authorisation
- Circumvent legal obligations to retain or disclose data (e.g. court orders, regulatory requirements)
- Conduct any activity that violates applicable UK law or the law of your jurisdiction
We are not responsible for the content you store on a Device. You bear sole responsibility for ensuring that your use of the Device complies with all applicable laws.
5. Data responsibility and loss
You are solely responsible for the data stored on your Device. Kryptbox does not have access to, and cannot recover, data stored on your Device. We strongly recommend maintaining independent backups of any important data.
We are not liable for:
- Loss, corruption, or inaccessibility of data stored on a Device, regardless of cause
- Data loss resulting from Device failure, damage, loss, theft, firmware issues, or forgotten access credentials
- Consequences of storing sensitive data (financial, medical, legal, or personal) on a Device that is subsequently lost, stolen, or compromised
- Any failure of on-device encryption resulting from defects in third-party cryptographic components beyond our control
If you forget your Device passcode or access credentials, we cannot recover your data on your behalf. There is no backdoor or master key.
6. Security limitations — no guarantee of absolute security
No hardware or software security system is impenetrable. Kryptbox makes no claim that its Devices are immune to all forms of attack, exploitation, or bypass. Security depends on multiple factors including, but not limited to:
- The strength of your access passcode or credentials
- Physical custody and control of the Device
- The security of the environment in which you use the Device
- The absence of known or unknown vulnerabilities in on-device firmware
The firmware is currently closed-source. No independent third-party security audit has been published. You should factor this into your assessment of whether the Device meets your personal or professional security requirements.
We accept no liability for breaches, data exposure, or losses arising from vulnerabilities in the Device that were not known to us at the time of sale, except where such liability cannot be excluded by law.
7. No professional advice
Nothing in our product documentation, website, blog, or marketing materials constitutes legal, financial, medical, or security advice. Any guidance we provide about use cases (e.g. storing passwords, documents, or records) is general in nature. You should obtain independent professional advice if you are uncertain whether a Device is suitable for a regulated or professional use.
8. Limitation of liability for products
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, KRYPTBOX LIMITED's total liability to you in connection with a Device (including for negligence, breach of contract, or any other cause) is limited to the purchase price you paid for that Device.
We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data
- Loss of profits, revenue, or business
- Loss arising from reliance on the Device for professional or regulated purposes
- Losses suffered by third parties as a result of your use of the Device
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law or the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
9. End of life and disposal
When you dispose of a Device, you are responsible for ensuring any stored data is irreversibly destroyed before disposal. We recommend performing a full factory reset (if available) or physical destruction of the storage medium. Kryptbox accepts no liability for data recovered from improperly disposed Devices.
10. Governing law
These Product Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising under these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except where applicable consumer law provides otherwise.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these Product Terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will change when we do. Continued use of a Device after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
